18th Month Vaccine Shot[1Y7M]

Took didi to get the shot today. After the needle stuck into his thigh, didi cried for about 20 seconds and then I tried to distract him by showing him the Doraemon figures next to the doctor's desk and he stopped crying. Obviously still angry at the surprising "pain in the thigh", he waves away the cookies that nurse offered him. ai ya, big temper too.

I talked briefly with the pediatrician about how didi was diagnosed with hypotonia. He said if didi can walk on his own, we have nothing to worry about. As for the speech delay, as long as he understands simple instructions and can comprehend things, he will eventually pick up the three languages that we use at home daily although at a relatively slower pace.

I do find didi to be more verbal these days. He sings almost all the time and I can guess which song he is singing and I sing along with him. Its fun too! Our helper also told me that didi knows what "meal time" "yogurt time" and "diaper time" mean and I tried it myself and it worked too. He is more cooperative during diaper time if I yelled out diaper time before I change him. My password for him to go to the bathroom and wash his hands with me is "wash wash wash". After hearing these three words, he will go to the bathroom and be more than happy to sit on my laps and have his hands washed. I yelled "bath time" yesterday and it worked too, he followed me to the master bedroom and helped me prepare the bathtub! When we put his bath time items one by one into the bathtub, I would usually call out their names (eg, cup, duck, fish) in either Mandarin or English and these days I found out he will say these words while he puts them into the tub too. Now I am trying to get him to say nose, ears, eyes and other body parts more often and as clearly possible because these are the stuff he should know by now.

Still on development. Today, didi is almost 13kg and around 84cm in height, ranked on the top 25% of kids his age. Hee hee, we have a L-size toddler at home!

I am still trying to figure out why didi is such an adorable angel with adults (even strangers) and older kids, but immediately turns into a fussy baby when he is with kids his age. In many occasions, he acted aggressively while both toddlers and toys are present, so I guess he probably just wants all the toys to himself and anyone else (meaning babies) is not allowed to touch the toys? I found a piece of interesting information on the Internet, which describes how toddlers think and react and this probably explians why didi acts this way these days. It goes like this ...

TODDLER'S CREED

If I want it, it's mine.
If I give it to you and change my mind later, it's mine.
If I can take it away from you, it's mine.
If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
If it's mine, it will never belong to anybody else, no matter what.
If we are building something together, all the pieces are mine.
If it looks just like mine, it is mine.
