Tracking Growth

I haven't done this for quite some time now. didi is now 101cm tall! Breaking that 100cm mark is some kind of achievement, don't you think? According to the growth percentile, he is slightly above average for his age.

In terms of speech, I think he has progressed a great deal and now people in the family circle can understand him pretty well. His articulation has improved so much that allows people to understand him better but there is still room for improvement.

He recognises some words from the story books and for stories that he is familiar with, he can tell you a story too. He asks lots and lots of questions. "What does this say?" "What's this for?" "Where are we going?" "How come...? and "Why does...?" Yap, he can keep you pretty busy.

Feeding himself is not a problem if he is really HUNGRY. He can do it for sure but it depends on how hungry he is too. He can put his clothes on, brush his teeth, walk up and down stairs unassisted most of the time. He can also stand on one foot although I was told that he should also be able to hop on one foot. There you go, another thing to work on.

In terms of micro motor, he is able to doodle and draw circles and now the focus will be helping him to draw straight lines and copy shapes such as triangle and squares. But I did notice that he could write capital letter A on his artworks.

As for school, he has settled in now and although sometimes he still says "I don't want to go to school." but he is making friends there and are brining home artworks that he did during studio time. Better of all, I don't receive complaints from teachers at school! haha, I don't ask for very much, do I? Well, this is the only stage in his life that he can be care free, why not just let him enjoy that?

We do not put him in any extracurricular activities and some people think that's outrageous. I don't believe in giving kids too many structured activities as I think going to school three hours per day, five days per week is enough for him to develop age appropriate skills. However, we do think that music lessons will benefit him and I have signed him up for Yamaha lessons just to get him interested in music, those lessons are not proper music/piano training, I just hope to get him hooked. I suppose one or two lessons per week is not going to hurt, and actually will be quite beneficial.
